Oprah is Back With Obama
February 2, 2008
About two months ago, Oprah Winfrey, the very well known talk-show host endorsed Barack Obama and was able to bring out tens of thousands of people to the arenas in New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina, two of which he won. But, since that time, she has not done all that much for the Obama campaign other than the occasional, “Oprah endorsed Obama.” And while that name could have had some help on the campaign, she had not done much in the forefront. However, with Super Tuesday appearing, that is changing.
What is Obama’s goal? To try and close the gap that Hillary Clinton currently has in California. How is she going to do it? By having Oprah meet up with Michelle Obama at a campaign rally in Los Angeles. Who are the targets? Women. The hope is that with the support of Oprah, a favorite show for many women nationwide, Obama will be able to gain a considerable backing from the women vote, a vote that has always given Hillary Clinton a very strong surge forward. With Oprah, the hopes are that they will be able to take a few votes away from Clinton.
But, the interesting thing is that Barack Obama himself won’t be in California. He flew from California to campaign in New Mexico, Idaho, Minnesota and Missouri. The way the Obama campaign is seeing things right now, while California holds the most delegates, if Obama wins other states and adds up the states, those states together hold more delegates than California alone; therefore, in their eyes, it’s imperative that he go around and campaign everywhere humanly possible as they lead up to Super Tuesday.
Can Oprah really help Obama? I have to say that I think that she will bring a considerable number of women voters to Obama’s side, which could really hurt Clinton. However, in the end, the only thing that will ensure Obama’s success is him offering the best possible plans for the people. With Super Tuesday only a few days away, time is running out for the candidates to get their votes. If they want to win, they are going to need to really get their words out. Best of luck to them all.
